How can one remove a 'trouble' not seen or found?
How can i sharpen my mind to see my own personal evil practices?
Who would have thought that it could be 'fascinating' to 'FIND SIN' ??
This study did just that for me. This study put the expressions of 'ERROR' in a much more detailed light, with resultant CHANGES in the way that i discern and think and speak.
So i offer it as a gift to you all.
Here it is...
A quick tour of all the interesting VERBS ..in the Greek Language
that are translated 'sin' in the 'New Testament' writings.
1)hamartia
The first and MOST FREQUENTLY USED verb.
the missing of a mark, or aim.
the pagan Greeks used it of a warrior who hurls a spear at a foe and who FAILS to strike the opposing warrior.
it is used of one who MISSES his way.
it is used of a poet who selects a subject which is impossible to treat 'poetically'
it is the 'FAILURE to ATTAIN' in any field of endeavour.
Hamartia is a 'Fearful Mistake'
..in the moral sphere it is utilised to hold the idea of 'Missing the right' and 'going wrong'.
In the higher presentation of Gods real PRESENCE in life, this 'missing of the mark' expresses the idea of the 'divinely appointed goal' being missed; a deviation from the path that is clearly pleasing to God, doing what is OPPOSED to Gods will, perversion of what is excellent or truly best.
